Double beta decay in sup 82 Se

A time projection chamber was used to look for double beta decay in {sup 82}Se. The detected two electron event signal was analyzed for evidence of {beta}{beta} (2{nu}), {beta}{beta}(O{nu}), and {beta}{beta}(O{nu},B). No evidence for {beta}{beta}(O{nu}) or {beta}{beta}(O{nu},B) was found and lower limits on the half lives of these modes were found to be 1.2 {times} 10{sup 22} years (68% CL) and 6.5 {times} 10{sup 20} years (68% CL) respectively. An extensive study of the background processes was used in a maximum likelihood analysis of the candidate spectrum to look for {beta}{beta}(2{nu}). The result finds the data consistent with the {beta}{beta}(2{nu}) of {sup 82}Se at a half life of (0.8 to 1.7) {times} 10{sup 20} years (68% CL).
