Rats were exposed to 840 R of gamma radiation and 24 h later homologous or heterologous DNA was given to the exerimental group. The animals were killed at intervals up to 18 months later and cytological preparations were made from bone marrow. The bone marrow of rats treated with DNA did not show significant differences in polyploidy or aneuploidy as compared to untreated rats. However, the percentage of chromosomal aberrations was significantly lower in rats treated with DNA. The relationship of chromosomal aberrations to severity of pathological changes in hematopoietic tissues is discussed. (HLW)
