A U.S. Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) administrative law judge has approved a $26 million development plan for the W. C. Taggart underground natural gas storage area in Michigan by Michigan Wisconsin Pipe Line Co., Michigan Consolidated Gas Co., Northern Natural Gas Co., and Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America. The project would store and redeliver 19.6 billion cu ft/yr for 15 years. Meanwhile, Trunkline Gas Co. has filed plans with FERC for a $33 million project to convert to storage the depleted Epps and South Epps natural gas fields in northern Louisiana, about 9 mi north of a Trunkline compressor station, by drilling 56 injection-withdrawal wells, 13 observations wells, and three water-disposal wells and providing related pipeline and measurement facilities. The Epps field will be brought into operation in 1980 following startup of Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co.'s LNG import program. Initial withdrawal rates of 50 million cu ft/day are expected by late 1980 and about 250 million cu ft/day max in 1986. The storage field will have a working reserve of about 25 billion cu ft.
