A series of spectra of AM Her obtained with the 6-m telescope when the system was in its low-brightness state are studied. For lines of all elements the equivalent widths and profiles depend strongly on the phase of the orbital period, but the variations differ from those found by Crampton and Cowley when Am Her was at maximum light. Lines of different elements behave differently with phase. There are two singular directions in the system, characterized by pronounced anomalies in the spectral characteristics: phi/sub pol/=0.0--0.5 and 0.4. As the system brightens the emission-line profiles grow narrower, becoming practically identical for the lines of all elements. The Am Her system seems to lack an accretion disk.
