Interior agrees to settle oil shale claims - strong reaction results

In a decision which surprised many, the US Department of the Interior reached a negotiated settlement in an oil shale land case involving Tosco, Exxon, Unocal, and other claimants for 82,000 acres of land in Colorado. A historical review of the issues involved in the case and a summary of the settlement are given.
