This patent describes a method for perforating a casing in a portion of a wellbore inclined to the vertical preparatory to extending a hydraulic fracture into a formation region of interest in a preferred direction of the fracture. It comprises: determining a preferred angular orientation of perforations; providing a perforating apparatus; inserting the apparatus into the wellbore determining the high side of the portion; operating the motor means to orient; and operating the apparatus to effect firing.
