The circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) boiler as it is now developing in the larger sizes (above 100,000 lbs/hr), can be constructed as a relatively fuel flexible burning system. However, several features of the basic fluidized-bed combustion system require adjustment or adaptation to enable the boiler to be suitable for various fuels. In this paper these considerations, both for the system and the fuel, are discussed.
