Theory of orthogonal modes in pulsar radio emission

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

The magnetoactive, relativistic electron--positron plasma in a pulsar magnetosphere will influence the propagation of radio waves and the manner in which they are polarized. The distinctive double-peaked structure and mutually orthogonal polarization of subpulses might be attributable to anomalous double refraction as radio waves pass through the dense magnetospheric plasma.
