How plantation fuel wood will help the pulp and paper industry

With the nukes on one side of us and the sheiks on the other, wood fuel is looking better all the time. However, fear will get us nowhere. We want profits. Fuel wood is here and now; waste wood and uncommericial standing timber make an important contribution to wood fuel, and plantation fuel wood is ready to fill the gap in large-scale, commercial application. I visualize the North American pulp and paper industry as self-sufficient in fuel supply for its steam and electricity needs. I hold that the technology for the achievement of self-sufficiency is here, and that the economics are favorable. The time has come for positive action by the decisionmakers who lead this industry.
