The Moomba natural gas underground storage project of Delhi International Oil Corp. in South Australia will use the first two units of a new turnkey compressor package, the DJ-50, which operates at 29.3% thermal efficiency for a heat rate of 8740 Btu/hp-hr. The unit combines Garret Corp.'s IE990 gas turbine at 5500 hp min ISO guaranteed rating and Dresser Industries Inc.'s centrifugal gas compressors with available drive ratios from 1800 to 27,360 rpm. The DJ-50 comprises four basic modules welded together on a baseplate to form a rigid structure for shipping: (1) the engine compartment contains the gas turbines, lubricating-oil systems, final fuel-shutoff valve, fuel manifold, and ignitors, (2) the inlet module holds the upper inlet plenum, intake air filter/silencers, and intake ducts with hoods mounted on each side, (3) the exhaust compartment includes an acoustically treated exhaust plenum and stack, and (4) the compressor and lubricant module contains the compressor and two oil tanks, one for compressor lubricating and seal oil, and the other for gas turbine and gearbox lubricating oil.
