New active substances for photodissociation iodine lasers

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
The following fluorinated iodides were tested as iodine-laser active media: C/sub 4/F/sub 9/I, C/sub 5/F/sub 11/I, CF/sub 3/OCF/sub 2/CF/sub 2/I, and C/sub 3/F/sub 7/OCF/sub 2/CF/sub 2/I. A stimulated emission output energy of 80--85 mJ/cm/sup 3/ was obtained from perfluorobutyl iodide (without an inert dilutent). This was comparable with the output achieved from n- and iso-perfluoropropyl iodides which are the most efficient active substances for iodine lasers. The lasing quenching mechanism was analyzed theoretically for a C/sub 4/F/sub 9/I laser.
