There are at present two copper oxide systems which are superconducting at temperature high compared to the conventional phonon mediated non-oxide superconductors. These systems are La{sub 2-x}(Ba,Sr){sub x}CuO{sub 4-{delta}} and YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 9-{delta}}. In the La{sub 2-x}Sr{sub x}CuO{sub 4-{delta}} system, the Sr concentration can be changed over a wide range forming solid solutions system and preserving the K{sub 2}NiF{sub 4} structure. In the YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 9-{delta}} system, changes in Y and Ba concentration result in the formation of other phases.
