Three days of hearings on the impact of the Reagan budget on solar and conservation programs were held in the Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco areas, which have led the nation in promoting and developing new energy sources. The new budget allots $1.2 billion, or 74%, for nuclear technologies and only $131 million, or 8%, for solar and conservation - with another 25% cut threatened. The discrepancies between subsidies granted to the oil, gas, and nuclear and those granted to solar and conservation indicate that a sound energy policy would eliminate all subsidization. The testimony of 28 witnesses presents the views of state and local governments, energy companies, universities, laboratories, and interest groups. (DCK)
