Intelligent building sourcebook. [Glossary included]
- eds.
The intelligent building sourcebook examines exciting new technologies which make it possible to integrate building automation systems (BAS), telecommunications, and office automation systems. This reference demonstrates how to apply BAS to maximize the comfort of the occupants of a building while minimizing the energy used by the building's heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. This fully integrated type of system can also be used to achieve economical, efficient lighting. Other system functions discussed include automated security and fire protection, and computerized building maintenance management. State-of-the-art telecommunication systems incorporating digital PBX are also covered. Building design issues and trends are reviewed, as are the methods of implementing shared tenant services. Technical aspects of building wiring, including both structural and functional integration, are covered in detail. A comprehensive series of case studies of intelligent buildings which have been developed to meet a variety of user requirements round out the book. Most of the 30 chapters have been abstracted separately for inclusion on the Energy Data Base.
