Pulsar radiation mechanisms

Conference · · Ann. N.Y. Acad. Sci.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5032310
A polar cap pulsar model is outlined which leads to a cone of coherent radio emission with properties resembling observations. Attention is given to associating coupled 10 to the 12th V drifting-ion-e(+) injection into the region above the polar cap with observed pulsar behavior, and to understanding how these currents lead to strong coherent radio emission. Also considered are current flow in a pulsar magnetosphere, potential drops and relativistic ion, electron and positron flows. In addition, observational data is reviewed, including position angles and circular polarization of pulses motion of subpulses and their polarization, and adiabatic walking of a linearly polarized mode are also discussed.
