A successful one-year performance test is reported for two new scrubbers at the Colstrip generating plant in meeting particulate and sulfur dioxide emissions requirements. Natural alkalinity of fly ash removed most sulfur dioxide and verified the scrubber system developed by Combustion Equipment Associates, Inc., engineered by Bechtel Power Corporation, and owned by the Montana Power Co. and the Puget Sound Power and Light Company. Performance data are reported, evaluated, and concluded to have reached commercial status. There was no scrubber scaling, reheater corrosion, or demister plugging reported. Emission data are documented for the first year of operation. The ratio of scrubber availability to plant load was 90%.
