A new concept in the handling of export coal from the Northern Appalachian region was the subject of an export coal conference sponsored by the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, pioneers of the movement of export coal via the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway. The conference brought together some 90 representatives of coal mining and sales companies, international trading companies, barge lines, and the railroad. Highlights of the conference are briefly presented. (JMT)
