This presentation at the Coal Technology '82 meeting provided an understanding of the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway transportation system's capability to handle export coal. In particular, the self-unloading vessel technology is discussed as making the system flexible, efficient and dependable with the capability of meeting a variety of coal buyer needs. The use of rail systems to haul coal and the use of modern port laoding facilities are also mentioned.
