Spectrum of leading particles in. pi. /sup -/N and. pi. /sup -/C interactions at 40 GeV/c

Experimental data are presented on the spectra of leading ..pi../sup -/ mesons in ..pi../sup -/N and ..pi../sup -/C interactions at40 GeV/c. It is shown that calculations on the basis of the bremsstrahlung model satisfactorily describe the experiment. The ratio of the differential multiplicities of leading pions in the carbon nucleus and in a nucleon is constant and agrees with the predictions of the additive quark model.
