Data flow language for the design of VLSI circuits

Book ·
OSTI ID:5000343
The author describes a proposal for a data flow language whose output can be mapped onto silicon. Not only can the data flow elements generated by this language be arranged in a wide variety of configurations, but the arrangement of the elements intrinsically specifies the circuit's functionality. The designer need not specify a controlling state machine. The designs resulting from the application of this language are naturally parallel and pipelined. Problems of clock skew in VLSI circuits can be addressed easily. This language seems most applicable to the design of integrated circuits implementing data-flow supercomputers.
