Lifetimes and oscillator strengths for the 6{ital p}7{ital s}{sup 3}{ital P}{sub 0,1} levels in BiII

Lifetime measurements and empirical branching ratio estimates for the 6{ital p}7{ital s}{sup 3}{ital P}{sub 0} and {sup 3}{ital P}{sub 1} levels in BiII are reported, together with supporting theoretical calculations. These results are combined to yield absorption oscillator strengths between these levels and those of the 6{ital p}{sup 2} ground configuration. The results are discussed in the context of spectroscopic data obtained from orbiting telescopes. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Astronomical Society.}
