IEA Task I: Environmental impacts of geothermal energy development

A new international scientific collaboration programme has been organized under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA). This programme, formalized by a Geothermal Research and Technology Implementing Agreement, includes a Task comprising 28 research projects from nine countries that will study the Environmental Impacts of Geothermal Energy Development. The Task will be organized by the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences of New Zealand, and will culminate in presentation of the results at a Special Session of the World Geothermal Congress 2000.
