Investigation of fast magnetic compression as method for generating a hot weakly compressed plasma (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4939885
The fast magnetic compression of a low density plasma (n/sub o/ approximately 2 x 10/sup 13/ cm/sup -3/) and its moving into equilibrium are investigated in a high voltage theta pinch (U/sub o,max/, = 500 kV). Electron density and temperature are measured by ruby laser light scattering. Ions are reflected from the magnetic piston during compression (about 30% reflection degree) resulting in strong ion heating. (auth)
