Endangering ground water occurrences by radioactive contaminants (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4939433
The soil factors affecting the radioactive contamination of underground water as a result of radioactive fallout are described. The results of the measurement of the contamination of rain, surface waters, and underground water by radioactive fallout from 1983 to 1967 are tabulated. The distribution of /sup 90/Sr and /sup 137/Cs in different types of soils is measured. The migration of various radionuclides in soil columns is determined. The decontamination effects of mechanical filtration, adsorption, ion exchange, and chemical precipitation in the soil are evaluated. The radiation burden to the population by Sr, Cs, Ru, I, and radionuclide mixtures in ground water is evaluated. The ground water is classified with respect to its probable contamination. (JSR)
