The stabilization of drift dissipative instabilities in an inhomogeneous plasma using an rf electric field was investigated. The time dependent equations to which the plasma density fluctuations (or potential fluctuation) should be subjected were derived from the two fluid slab model and the values required for the frequency and amplitude of the applied electric field required for stabilization were determined.
