Thesis. The angular distributions of neutrons emitted in the /sup 29/ Si(d,n)/sup 30/P reaction were analyzed for an incident energy of 4 MeV. Generally, the shapes obtained experimentally for these distributions are similar to those calculated theoreticaliy wlth the two programs employed. The direct interaction mechanism appears to be dominant. Studies of the reaction enabled the parity to be fixed and the number of possible values for the spins of excited /sup 30/P levels to be restricted (between 3.5 and 6 MeV): E(exc) = 5.41 MeV J( pi ) = 0/sup -/, 1/sup -/, 2/sup -/; E(exc) = 5.91 MeV J( pi ) = 2/sup -/, 1/su p -/; E(exc) = 5.99 MeV J( pi ) = 1/sup -/. In addition, the characteristics obtained for the ground state and 1.45-, 1.97-, and 4.62-MeV levels agree with experimental results previously obtained from other reactions. The presence of at least 4 negative-parity levels between 4.5 and 6 MeV excitation is an interesting result which might be used to test new wave functions. (FR)
