Nondestructive determination of uranium in low-grade ores by gamma spectrometry: indirect measurement by means of the $sup 234$Th photopeak (in Portuguese)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4937363
A nondestructive method for uranium determination in lowgrade ores by gamma spectrometry is outlined. The method was applied especially to the Morro do Agostinho ore, Pocos de Caldas plateau, Minas Gerais. Uranium determination by this method is based on the measurement of the /sup 234/Th (93-keV) photopeak. It is a simple method because a single gamma analyzer can be used. The spectrometer can be installed in the ore treatment plant, making the control work for uranium easier. Radiometric determination is rapid and gives good results, with errors lower than 10%. It can be applied to any uraniferous ore, requirements being the secular equilibrium and content of thorium not higher than 0.25% ThO/sub 2/. (auth)
