Obtaining pertechnetate solutions (Tc-99m) with high activity concentration (in Spanish)
A solvent extraction procedure for preparation of carrier-free Tc-99m solutions with high activity concentration is described. Irradiated molybdenum oxide is dissolved in sodium hydroxide solution; the technetium, product of molybdenum decay, can periodically be extracted with methyl ethyl ketone. The organic phase is then purified by ion exchange. The solvent is evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue is taken up in isotonic saline solution. The complete process yield is over 90% and the activity of the final solution has a concentration that depends on the volume of saline used. It is possible to obtain solutions with some tens of millicuries /sup 99m/Tc per milliliter. The methyl ethyl ketone concentrations in the final solution are below 1%, the pertechnetate content is over 99% and the radionuclidic purity is higher than 99% /sup 99m/Tc. (auth)
