Some nuclear calculations and theoretical interpretations of the critical experiment ITR

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4935808
Theoretical considerations and initial computational results in analyzing the experimental data of the ITR critical experiment are presented. The neutron cross sections source and their transformation into group cross sections necessary for the reactor calculations which were carried out mainly with Monte Carlo and two dimensional SN-codes are discussed. The results of three different kinds of computations are presented. These are critical mass determination, activation integral calculations and reactivity worth calculations of reflector parts. Different nuclear data sets showed a surprisingly high difference in the calculated critical mass. With the nuclear data from the ENDF/ B-I library, a good agreement between the calculated critical mass (Monte Carlo method) and the measured values was obtained. Also other computational results showed a satisfying agreement with the experiment. (auth)
