Release of fission products from Zircaloy-clad UO$sub 2$ fuel at around 1000$sup 0$C

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4934947

Fission product release experiments have been carried out with Zircaloy- clad UO/sub 2/ fuel pins including two which were available from an irradiation experiment in SGHWR. The pins were caused to fail in flowing steam at ~1000 deg C, which are conditions relevant to some SGHWR fault situations, and the escaped fission products /sup 133/Xe, /sup 131/I, and in some cases /sup 85/Kr, were trapped and measured The results of these experiments are assessed with a view to providing the best present estimates of inert gas//sup 131/I release - ratios for use in reactor incident evaluation. 4 references.
