Benchmark experiment of neutron propagation in iron

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4934866
Fast-neutron propagation in a large iron block was investigated to check the differential microscopic cross section by integral measurements. The measurements were performed by activation detectors and fission chambers; they consisted in the analysis of the relative reaction rates in the central plane of the block, in the determination of the spectral indexes in the zone of neutron equilibrium spectrum, and in the measurement of such spectrum by the sandwich'' technique. This experiment has been proposed by ESIS as a benchmark case for shielding calculations. (6 figures, 5 tables) (auth)
