Magnetic investigations of several rare earth oxides

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4934726
The results of thc magnetic susceptibility measurements for neodymium sesquioxide and nonstoichiometrie praseodymium oxide at 1.5 to 300 deg K and for nonstoichiometric terbium oxide at 4.2 to 300 deg K are reported. These rare earth oxides proved to be neither antiferromagnetic nor ferromagnetic. For the most ordered form of neodymium sesquioxide there are two characteristic temperatures: --37 and -5 deg K. For TbO/sub 1.75//Tb/sub 4/O/sub 7 the results of the measurements are similar to the results for TbO/sub 1.809/, and are different from results for other nonstoichiometric Tb-O phases. For PrO/sub 1.8333//Pr/sub 6/O/sub 11// the susceptibility curve is not linear and is in agreement with the data in the literature. (auth)
