Thesis. Submitted to Universite Scientifique et Medicale de Grenoble (France). An apparatus for measuring the specific heat of various materials between 4 and 3OO deg K is described. These measurements are carried out with linear rise in temperature thereby ensuring very rapid operations and measurements. The first part of the study is devoted to a detailed description of the apparatus, and of the method of differential calorimetry by power compensation used for this type of measurement. A critical study of the apparatus in operation, on the basis of a series of tests, is given. Also, a statement of the results of measurements of specific heat on miscellaneous samples is given, thereby establishing the range of possibilities offered by the use of the apparatus (copper, alumina, niobium, niobium-titanium, and erbium orthochromite).
