A nuclear reactor is arranged in a closed shell and comprises a moderator structure. Supports between the shell and the said structure act in such a manner that differential thermal expansions or contractions can take place. The support which maintains the lateral position of the moderator structure comprises a wall divided into parts surrounding the moderator structure. The adjacent parts of the wall are connected by compensating means guaranteeing the compression of the wall parts in spite of the thermal expansion of the moderator structure. (NPO)
