PHYSICO-CHEMICAL STUDIES OF RHENIUM SULFIDES (in Russian)

Thermographic, thermogravimetric, and x-ray-diffraction analyses were made of rhenium heptasuifide. Re/sub 2/S/sub 7/, prepared by hydrogen sulfide precipitation from potassium perrhenate in the presence of acid, is variable in composition and is saturated with sulfur in comparison with a stoichiometric composition of Re/sub 2/S/sub 7/ (up to ReS/sub 3.7//sub 5/). Rhe nium heptasuifide prepared by a wet method and not subjected to special thermal treatment is x-ray amorphous. ReS2/sup /ys->s tallization, during decomposition of Re/sub 2/S/sub 7/, begins at 400 deg C and proceeds very slowly. The heptasulfide decomposition polytherm indicates the absence of any stable compounds between disulfide and heptasulfide. (R.V.J.)
