GAS LUBRICATED JOURNAL BEARING ASSEMBLIES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4842796

A gas-lubricated journal bearing assembly is designed so that, in the event of gas lubrication failure, the bearing can centinue to operate without creating a large leakage path in the sealing means. The assembly consists of a journal member and a journal bearing member, one of the members comprising a base part with a coaxial sleeve joined to it by an annular sealing part. In normal operation, gas lubrication is sustained between the sleeve part and the other member of the assembly. In the event bearing seizure, relative rotation between the sleeve part and its base pant can take place by slip at the annul sealing part. (D.L.C.)
