THE INFLUENCE OF EMULSION GRANULARITY ON QUANTITATIVE PHOTOGRAPHIC RADIOMETRY

Journal Article · · Photo. Sci. Eng.
OSTI ID:4842180
Granularity limits the accuracy with which the exposure incident upon small areas of a photographic emulsion can be determined, especially for quantitative radiometric measurements using film as the detector. A simple graphic procedure is described whereby the distinguishable density and exposure levels of a specific emulsion or a complete photographic system can be determined. These distinguishable levels define the information storage potential, informational speed, threshold speed, and maximum radiometric accuracy. Some results are given. (auth)
