DOSIMETRIC FUNDAMENTALS IN THE DETERMINATION OF THE VOLUME DOSE IN X-RAY IRRADIATION (in German)

In a homogeneous water phantom under normal irradiation conditions (70 kv, 2.5 mm Al filter, 45 cm FHD, and 168 cm/sup 2/ input field) the isodose distribution was measured. The volume dose thus determined agrees with the value calculated by Mayneord. A large-surface ionization chamber placed in the radiation path, and which completely surrounded the useful radiation beam, needs a dose magnitude with the dimensions r x cm/sup 2/. The volume dose can be determined clearly from this magnitude at constant focusskin distance. Only the tube voltage in kv is a variable. Every surface chamber of this type requires, on account of the very strong wave length dependence restricted by the special construction, an individual calibration. Only under these conditions and with knowledge of the radiation quality is its measurement magnitude a measurement for the volume dose. (tr-auth)
