ON THE $mu$ $Yields$ 3e DECAY AS A TEST OF THE APPLICABILITY OF THE PERTURBATION EXPANSION IN THE THEORY OF WEAK INTERACTIONS

As a test of the applicability of the perturbation expansion in the theory of weak interactions the mu yields 3e decay is considered. The weak interactions are given in the usual current x current form including quadratic terms like (e-bar nu ) ( nu -bare). The best value so far available for the branching ratio mu yields 3e/ nu yields e + nu + nu -bar then requires a cut-off at 90 Bev to make the theoretical predictions compatible with the experimental findings. This cut-off is in agreement with the cut-off obtained in mu yields e + gamma decay discussed earlier by Ioffe. (auth)
