Electron tracks obtained in a cloud chamber, triggered by a large scintillator, are analyzed to obtain the zenith angle dependence of the cores of extensive air showers, A cosine power law gives a reasonable fit with an exponent of 7.6. A better fit is obtained using the exponential absorption law exp STA-(x₀/ lambda ) (sec THETA - 1)!. Fitting the moments of the observed angles to this distribution leads to an absorption length of lambda = I44 g/cm². These results apply at 1575 m for showers of 105 to 106 particles. (auth)
