RADIOSENSITIVITY OF HIGHER PLANTS, AND CORRELATIONS WITH CELL WEIGHT AND DNA CONTENT

Journal Article · · Radiation Botany
OSTI ID:4840572

Cell fresh welght and DNA per cell were measured in the leaves of forty species of higher plants. These data are compared with the LD/sub 50/ for Co/sup 60/ gamma radiation for dry seeds of the same species. The relation between LD/ sub 50/ and cell fresh welght ls slgniflcant and the relation between LD/sub 50/ and DNA per cell ls hlghly signlficant. DNA per cell is a major factor determining plant radiosensitivity, but other factors are also important. (auth)
