The self-diffusion of uranium in UO/sub 2/ sintered bodies was determined with the help of alpha radiation absorption and by direct measurement of the concentration distribution of U . In a hydrogen atmosphere and in the temperature range from l3OOto 1600 deg C, the value D = 0.23 exp (- 104.6 kcal/RT) cm/sup 2/ sec/sup -1/ is valid. Orienting research in argon atmospheres between 900 and 1200 deg C gave an activation energy of only 52 kcal/ mole. (tr-auth)
