PRESSURE SUPPRESSION CONTAINMENT

Journal Article · · Atomics
OSTI ID:4839718
The design, testing methods, and performance of the pressure suppression containment which acts as a barrier to the release of fission products from a reactor are described. The Transient Test Facility is used to describe tests with materials representative of fission products in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the pool around the system. The initial test results show that the suppression pool will retain a significant fraction of suspended and soluble material associated with a steam-air mixture transient, and therefore will make a contribution to minimizing the potential escape of fission products from such reactor containment systems. The fission products are vented into the water pool from a dry well which contains the reactor. (N.W.R.)
