PERTURBATION THEORY FOR ACCELERATORS WITH A GENERAL MAGNETIC FIELD

The problem of calculating the effect of field perturbation on the linear orbit properties of an accelerator with a general magnetic field is treated. The perturbing magnetic field in the median plane is assumed to have only a vertical component and to have the same periodicity as the enperturbed field. Results are found for the change in the equilibrium orbit, and in the betatron oscillation frequencies caused by the perturbation. (auth)
