FLUORINE-18: A NEW ISOTOPE FOR BONE SCANNING

Journal Article · · J. Nuclear Med.
OSTI ID:4838142
The possibility of detecting bone lesions by isotope scanning after the administration of F/sup 18/ is discussed. The ies, preparation, and half life of F/sup 18/ are reviewed. Eighteen patients with known bone lesions were given F/ sup 18/. Concentrations of F/supn 18/in the lesions were adequate for good visualization. The uptake in normal bones was very low compared to sites of active bone lysis or deposition. In two patients uptake was demonstrated in sites of bone pain where no lesions were shown by x rays. The possibility of early metastases at these sites is considered. (C.H.)
