Spectrophotometric Determination of Microamounts of Uranium Previous Extraction with TBP-MIC; DETERMINACION ESPECTROFOTOMETRICA DE MICROCANTIDADES DE URANIO PREVIA EXTRACCION CON METILISOBUTILCENTONA-FOSFATO DE TRIBUTILO

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4837988
Selective extraction of uranium in nitric acid medium with a mixture of TBP-MIC (1: 10) was achieved. Aluminum nitrate was used as salting agent. Complexing agents were added to avoid extraction of impurities. Extraction conditions were studied so that extraction is almost practically complete in a single run. Uranlum was determined by colorimetry by the method of Joe Will and coworkers based on the yellow color developed by the complex of uranium with dibenzoylmethanc. The method was modified to be applicable in alcoholic medium extraction. The optical density is measured with a spectrophotometer at 410 m mu V. Statistical treatment of the results was compared with the NaOH--H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ method, in which uranium is first separated by ion-exchange and the confidence bands for the calibration curves were determined.
