SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE MICROAMOUNTS OF URANIUM PREVIOUSLY EXTRACTED WITH METHYL ISOBUTYL KETONE-TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE (in Spanish)

Selective extraction of uranium in nitric acid medium with a mixture of TBP-methylisobutylketone (1: 10) was achieved. Aluminum nitrate was used as salting agent. Complexing agents were added in order to avoid extraction of impurities. Extraction conditions were studied so that extraction was almost practically complete in a single run. Uranium was determined by colorimetry based on the yellow color developed by the complex of uranium with dibenzoylmethane. The method was modified to be applicable to alcoholic medium extraction. The optical density was measured with a spectrophotometer at 410 mu. Statistical treatment of the results obtained with this method was compared with the results found with the NaOH--H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ method, in which uranium is first separated by ion exchange and the confidence bands for the calibratlon ion curves were determined.
