A SYSTEM FOR STABILIZING THE GAIN OF A SCINTILLATION SPECTROMETER

Journal Article · · Nuclear Instr. & Methods

A gain-stabilizing system for use with a scintillation counter is described. The system uses a small lamp (6977) as a stable reference to correct the gain of the photomultiplier and amplifier. A stabilizing factor of 330 is obtained. When used in conjunction with a multichannel analyzer calibrated for l5 kev per channel, gamma ray peaks at 34.10 and 85.41 channels (on the average) show root-meansquare deviations of 0.05 and 0.04 channels respectively, for measurements made over a period of 23 hours.
