Patent ·
OSTI ID:4837495
A Zr alloy suitable for use in aqueous media at high temperatures, e.g., in pressurized or boiling water reactors, is one containing 0.75to 1.25 wt% Cu and 0.25to 0.75 wt % Sn, the balance being Zr and impurities. The preferred alloy contains 1.0 wt % Cu and 0.5 wt % Sn and was found to have a weight gain of 1.2 mg/cm/sup 2/ after exposure to steam at 1 atm and 500 deg C for 450 hr, as compared to a weight gain of 7.8 mg/cm/sup 2/ for Zircaloy-2 under the same conditions.
