TRANSONIC FLOW IN A MAGNETOHYDRO-DYNAMIC GENERATOR

It is shown that a decelerating "tunnel' for the onedimensional flow of a conducting gas in crossed electric field can be shifted wholly into the generator region (or wholly into the motor region) of the field by using a divergent (or convergent) duct, so that it is possible in principle to have a smooth transonic deceleration in a magnetohydrodynamic generator, with the consequent possibility of increased efficiency.
